I need some ideas of things to give acquaintances, such as, a movie gift bag with popcorn, candy, movie gift certificate, etc. I would like to buy in bulk and make a few gifts with what I buy. Any ideas?

Depending on how much you are looking to spend, here are some idea's.

1- buy some premade cookie dough (get two kinds), two bags of chocolate chips, 1 bag of small pretzal twists or large pretzal rods, and some cute tins or plates at the dollar store. Bake the cookies, but make the cookies smaller than normal sized, to get more cookies from each log. Melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler (or stick a small pot in a larger pot which should have water in it). Once it's melted, dip the pretzals in it, and let them cool on a sheet of wax paper. Arrange a few cookies, and some pretzals on each plate. You can add a handful of Christmas candy and a candy cane to the top, too.

2- Go to Wal-Mart, get some glass vases or -large- glass candle holders, a few bags of potpourrie, and some strands of 20 count Christmas Lights. There are $1.00 bags of potpourrie there in the same aisle as the candle holders & vases, in crafts. The vase I used cost $1.97, and the lights are $.97. Put some of the lights in the vase, then add potpourrie, the put more of the lights in, then potpourrie. Repeate until you have all the lights in the vase. Leave the cord hanging out, though, and either tape it to the glass, or tie a ribbon around the holder to tie it into place. When plugged in, the lights heat the potpourrie, and they smell wonderful, any time of the year. Cost- $4.00 each. Alternativly, I found slightly smaller vases at Dollar Tree yesterday, $1.00 each. I found much bigger bags of potpourrie for $1.00 as well, and sets of 35 lights for $1.00 each. For $5.00, I was able to buy 2 lights, 2 vases, and 1 potpourrie, so I made them for $2.50 each. I use these year round in my bathrooms as night lights & air freshners.

3- A gift card for $5-10 for a local video store, one of those buckets of microwave popcorn, a box or two of "movie theater" candy (which can be aquired for $1.00/box at both Dollar Tree & Walgreens), and a soda or two. Or, to up the price a bit more, get a Popcorn style bowl for the popcorn, and some matching cups for the soda. Exchange a bucket for a box of microwave popcorn- movie theater style with extra butter!

4. Gift cards for McDonalds- who doesn't stop to eat out once in a while?

5. Get a gift card to a local pizza place, a gift card to the local video rental place, and a set of cute plastic plates & cups to eat & drink from.

6. Hit Dollar Tree for lots of small things, and make gift baskets- candles, tree ornaments, bath products, small toys, candy, dishes, music CD's and so much more. You can get a handful of several different things, and personalize each basket.

7. Get stuff for a game night- a fun adult type board game (like Battle of the Sexes, Scattergories, Taboo, etc), a deck or two of cards, and a bag of potato chips, as well as a bowl to put them in. For kids, get a kid board game, and a deck of kid card games, like go fish.

Hope some of those idea's help!

candles - if you buy a selection, group nicely and wrap with plain raffia, and tie with a bow. It looks classy and needn't cost a lot (especially as I see you're an Ikea freak and they have lots and lots of candles!).
You could also buy attractive plant pots from Ikea, fill with stones and set a big candle in them.

Candles always go down well. One year I bought candle, the next candle holders, the next hammocks - it does get a bit catchy, buying in bulk! Just remember to buy something for yourself if it's what you like. I regret not buying one of the hammocks for my own home!

You don't say how much you want to spend so it's a little difficult to suggest. However, if these are aquaintances and not friends as such, then you might want to make that plain in the gift?

Buy big cheap, plastic bowls from Walmart, fill with snacks, like popcorn, peanuts, cashews, candy bars, pretzels, movie size boxes of candy like mints, Raisinetts, etc., all one serving size. Put a Blockbustor card in the middle.
Take how many people, times how many cards, and how many bags of each kind of snack.
Do one prototype, to see what fits, and what looks good, then go and buy.
Merry Christmas!

Why not a book about Facesitting? It's all the rage right now and the boys love it!

Sometimes you can get better deals on-line than at the actual places. I would research that on-line and see if they can offer better deals.
