Hugh Jackman is in my opinion the most underrated actor in the business right now. I can't think of a single person who can convey the dept of emotion that he shows on screen.

Its a travesty. Academy members take note!

I'm talking about roles like 'The Prestige' and most recently 'The Fountain'. Maybe its because they are unusual roles that not a lot of poeple are seeing.

Yes, I think the time has come for Academy members to stand up and take note.

Jackman is beyond doubt one of the most talented actors in the industry and around the world. What I really like about him is that he's also very grounded.

Coming from down-under he has made his entry into Hollywood in a slow but steady manner. He made X-men watchable, that too when he was not the first choice for the role. When he could've used the X-men success to grab other meaty roles in movies, he couldn't pass up the opportunity to play Peter Allen on the Broadway musical "The Boy from Oz". And what a job he did!!
And yet, he has never stayed cast in one figure. Not many know that he was offered the role of Billy Flynn in Chicago - the Musical. He actually walked away from an Oscar-worthy performance opportunity, because he felt he was too young for the role(he was 34 then), and he didn't want to be the singing-dancing sensation forever.

With every movie of his, he attempts a new genre and tries to go where he and his audience have never been before. I completely respect him for this.

Personally, for the longest time I kept longing for a strong star/performer in the 30-somethings generation and found only Matt Damon coming close. And then I discovered Hugh Jackman, and as much I loved him, I had to switch loyalties. :-)

And now, 2006 has brought things together for Jackman where jury members need to start looking up. He has now done everything - romance in "Kate & Leopold", action in "X-men" and "Van Helsing", music in "The Boy from Oz", drama in "Swordfish" and "The Prestige", animation comedy in "Flushed Away" & "Happy Feet" and pure, beautiful emotion in "The Fountain". And in every genre he has just improved further. Can you even imagine watching Dougray Scott as Wolverine, or Brad Pitt as Tom/Tomas? In a way I'm glad "Troy" beckoned Brad - but then Hugh would've given us opportunities to enjoy his performance in other roles!

Yes, he IS the most Oscar-worthy actor for 2006, and I'm rooting for him. And yet, I can sit back relaxed knowing that there's so much more in him, that this may just be the beginning of his reign.

i used to wonder too.but now i know.
actually everyone individually thinks that------- "hugh jackman is a great actor and he doesnt need to be voted by me,there is plenty of people who'l vote for him,but poor X(any other actor) he did the best he could in his movie but even that wasnt enough so i think i'l vote for him at least he'l get 1 vote!".

and as 1+1+.....makes 100 and so on,the greatest actors doesnt get oscars so forth.

For what role, specifically, do you believe he deserves an Oscar? I agree he's a fine actor, but I can't actually say I've seen him in much else besides the X-men movies.

That is a question I ask myself often. Hugh deserves to get one. I know if he does get nominated I will vote for him.

Maybe the members of the Academy are afraid of being sliced by his claws when he makes his acceptance speech.
I know I would be.
