Im a time served plumber with around six years under my belt and am thinking about going my own way and opening a small buisness of my own and was wondering the best way and place in doing this.

You should do a few things.
First off, join your local chamber of commerce, a lot of small business owners will help you network and give you ideas.
Secondly, a lot of plumbers have great success in the coupon mailers that go out to people's homes.
Yellow Pages is good too, but very expensive.
Also register on free sites like http://www.whyabe.com , you can register as a plumber there, and then if anyone is looking for services in your area they can email you.
You could also start an inexpensive website, but it may take months for you to get it listed well in the search engines.
