Good question. I love Bette Davis, Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Cary Grant, Lauren Bacall, Peter Sellers, The Supremes, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye & Tammy Terrell and Aretha Franklin, just for mentioning some names.

By the way, is Dustin Hoffman taken as a golden oldie too?
If the answer is 'yes', I would certainly include him on that list above!

I'm 44 and I enjoy music and films going back as far as the 1920s, though not to the exclusion of more recent stuff. Good is good, regardless of date, and I'm constantly amazed at the number of people who don't know that certain songs or movies are remakes of earlier classics.
Saw a Q on here not long ago from a young lady asking for the identity of a guy she heard singing "American Pie," which she identified as being "originally by Madonna." I almost died before I answered that the guy she heard was Don McLean, who wrote and recorded the song more than 30 years before.
Had a similar reaction to a Q about the lyrics to "Mockingbird" which the asker said was "by Toby Keith and his daughter," with complete ignorance of the many previous recordings of the song, including one by Inez and Charles Foxx, who wrote it more than 40 years ago.
I had to laugh when one of g/f's daughter's friends heard "Tainted Love" for the first time and thought that Soft Cell was ripping off Rhianna.
Same with movies. I've met an awful lot of people who had no idea that "The Manchurian Candidate," "Ocean's Eleven," and "The Longest Yard," among others, were remakes of earlier classics. I don't necessarily object to remakes, but I do have a problem with ignorance of the past.
I could go on, but the point is made. All of us should be more aware of the fact that the world didn't start turning on the day we were born.
I'm glad to hear that there are some broader minds out there.
Oh, and it's "Garfunkel," with an "-EL," just for the record.

I'm 24 years old and i'm a huge oldies fan....I love music from Elton John, the beatles, Olivia Newton-John, Percy Sledge, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, ABBA, The Bee-Gees, The Jackson 5, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Skeeter Davis....wow...so many to name....but I Love Michael Buble because he sings so many of the classics with a modern twist without losing the flavor of the music.
