My 7-year old niece has everything. Both sets of grandparents spoil her rotten and there isn't one material thing she needs. She has CD's, DVD's, books, too may toys, stuffed animals, you name it. I'm at my wit's end trying to think of something to give her. My husband says don't give her anything if she has everything. Christmas is especially enjoyable for kids and I couldn't do something like that. Please give me some useful suggestions on what I might get for her.

I'm crocheting a babydoll blanket for my grandchild who will be turning eight years old soon. If you can't make her something which will be memorable to her when she gets older, maybe spending your time doing something with her will be enjoyable and memorable for her as well as for you. Happy Holidays to you and yours!

A book on felt making plus materials. I did this for my 7 year old niece. Kids do get a lot of stuff - usually too much that they are overwhelmed.
I get over that by giving them something that they can learn from - so the felt book was brilliant.
You can buy various coloured merino wool from ebay. for example - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FELT-MAKING-KIT-STARTER-PACK-FINEST-MERINO-WOOL_W0QQitemZ130050058193QQihZ003QQcategoryZ28142QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

She can use it to make purses, picture frames, a picture, a handbag, a dolls blanket, a hat (will require adult assistance).
Amazon has books on the subject:

But if you're new to this go to a place like the big superstore, Hobbycraft, and get some advice from there. They have a range of books and packs of things like this.
It would help if you could spend time with your niece to learn how to do this with her. That's the greatest gift - your time!

don't worry so...she's lucky to have an aunt who is this thoughtful. You're a good role model for her. Although I sympathise with your husband, it's not the most constructive of suggestions is it?!

I agree with the Webkinz. I have a 6 year old neighbour that I babysit sometimes and she collects those like crazy. They're great for kids. There are also computer games or gaming system games that would go great. Definitely get the girl what she likes, who cares what other people think? Let her be individual.

I would either give her a gift certificate to the mall, or take her out to Chuck E.Cheese for the day. Every kids loves that. Or maybe take her to Build A Bear to make a special birthday bear. They always have something new there.
