First, probation is a sentence. It is in lieu of jail/prison time. Usually accompanied by some sort of rehabilitation program. I.E. 5 years probabtion and a 6 month drug rehabilitation program. Probation was conceived for non-violent, usually first time offenders as a means of rehabilitation, not retribution. If probation is violated you are then remanded to custody to serve an underlying prison term. It's advent has helped ease the burden of the prison system while at the same time maintaining the productivity of the individual in question, as a customary part of probation, they usually must sustain gainful employment. Probation is treated the same as jail time on your record. It can be expunged if you try, but it will show up on any background check.
Stealing is the unlawful taking of something belonging to someone else. This is wrong for several reasons. The world's first laws: The Ten Commandments and the Code of Hammurabi, state as such. Since our modern system is based off of these two systems, that is why stealing is wrong. It is unacceptable in our societly or by our laws.
If you are caught stealing, there are a range of things that can happen to you depending on how much you stole. You could be sentenced to 6 months probation and community service, to up to 25 years in prison for embezzling government money. Also, depending on whether it was violent or non-violent (with or without a weapon), you could have probation or a maximum sentence in a state penetintiary. Usually, for nonviolent first time offenders, there is a sentence of probation and community service.
People stealing is one of the oldest crimes in the human race. There are many reasons for which someone might steal. First is necessity, they have no food, so they steal food. Second is to simply have more than they already have, or jealousy. Tom Jones has a nice car, Randy wants a nice car, Randy steals Tom Jones' car. Third would be for power. This would be evident in some of the thefts involving gangs or deviant organizations. By stealing, you are proving to others in the group that you have power, thereby increasing your standing in the group. Fourth would be a psychological impairment. There are individuals that have an uncontrollable tendency to steal.
If one choses to break the law they must understand that they are doing wrong. Secondly they must accept that they are doing wrong and be prepared to deal with the consequences of that wrong. They must weigh the benefits against the consequences and determine for themselves if it is worth performing the criminal act. They must realize that they are harming themselves: harming future employment opportunities, possible jail time, and possible fines. Secondly, they must realize they are harming the ones that love them: family embarassment, shunned by friends, and ridicule from family. Third, they must realize they are harming society: insurance costs of theft, lost time, lost wages, court costs, police costs, harm to the individual they stole from, and the fear instilled in a community due to theft.
Hope this helps, you might want to dumb down the big words for the judge, lol.

Write about stealing another persons essay (plagiarism) why is it wrong? Why do people do it? What things do you need to realize when you have someone else write your essay, knowing your are cheating and stealing? If you get caught and put on academic probation, why did the school choose to do that instead of expelling you?
