The first time I took one was when the doctor in emergency gave me one. I thought I was having a heart attack but it was some form of anxiety attack. It worked in 20 minutes; all symtoms 100% gone.

I have to take this drug when I fly. I am extremely phobic of planes but like to travel so I take 1.5 mgs every time I fly.

First off, obviously, the drug should be prescribed by a doctor.

Secondly, you should only take it occassionally. This is very very addictive. Sometimes if your anxiety issues are severe it is worth it to be addicted to the pill in order to function. However, if you experience anxiety issues daily you need a different kind of drug, like Prozac, Celexa, or Lexapro. Those are the drugs that it takes about six weeks to work into your system.

If you experience occasional issues with anxiety, it's a good thing to take. It is immidiately calming. For me, since I only take it when I fly and since I only fly about twice a year, it has a very sedative effect on me. It also makes me a little "high" which is not the desired affect but if you're scared enough or anxious enough you'd much rather be high than panicked.

Every drug has side effects, you need to read up on the possible side effects. Don't drink with them, find out about drug interactions, and all should go well.

It's best to not use this type of medication unless you absolutely have to, lorazapam is an highly addictive drug. My mom was given lorazapam, she had a hard time weening herself from it. Falling asleep and staying asleep was really hard for her when she started to reduce her intake. Your body builds up resistances to drugs, even when taken in moderation. Therefore you will probably find yourself needing more to obtain the same effectiveness. I'm not a doctor, but these are concerns that you could bring up to him/her.

I have taken the medicine on a couple of occasions in the last year, as needed, during intense bouts of anxiety. I had just found out that my cat had chronic renal failure and I needed to put her in the hospital for a few days for intense treatment.

My doctor prescribed lorazepam for me to take as needed. It calmed me down within an hour and helped me get to sleep without knocking me out or making me groggy.

At no time did I ever feel as though I had to take it, and I had no trouble stopping it.

It is fine to take it on an occasional basis and if it does the job, then great!

Beware though, this drug belongs to a family called 'Benzodiazepines' which are highly addictive and you can easily become dependent upon them.

Just take it as and when it is necessary, and ONLY then and you should be absolutely fine.
