I will be buying my kid the families first ipod. what extras should santa pick up for it? what download place should I subscribe to? If i cancle my service will the songs go away from the ipod? i am buying the one with the video screen. i'm a little older and slow but getting hipper every day!

extras should include a case to protect your ipod screen and click wheel from scratches, etc. you can either subscribe to itunes and then purchase per song or but in a monetary amount each month as a credit and then u just download until u hit ur target. u can also download from limewire, bearshare, kazaa for free. you will need to install itunes on ur comp if u dont already have a mac. (this comes on a cd with ur ipod tho) and no...if u subscribe to a music account and then cancel ur membership ur songs wont disappear. they are on ur computers hard drive and only will go away if u delete them or reformat ur hard drive.

FM Transmitter, Car charger, protective case. The first two only if you plan on listening to it in your car often (they tend to cost around $100 for the pair). The case is almost a must, around $30, you can get ones that protect the casing, or the casing and the screen, but they vary a lot.
For obtaining music, iTunes is quick and easy, but the songs can only be played on 5 computers. This isn't a problem unless you plan to have the song for a while and possible get some new computers in that time. Limewire is very easy to use, free, but in the gray area of legality.
If there's an Apple store near you, go there. The salespeople are great since their purpose is to educate people, not sell them stuff.

for the extra if you want to listen to it in the car i would suggest the am/fm transmitter its really small and takes triple A batteries but it works really good. and a car charger would be a good idea to. i use limewire and itunes and these songs only go away if something happens to your computer. and they dont erase off the ipod inless you clear them off.
