When you are 21 weeks it is possible to not feel the baby move sometimes, because the uterus is larger than the baby by a decent amount still. You may be able to prompt movement by drinking something sugary or coughing. This concern depends a bit on what is normal for you. Have you felt the baby kick every day since you started feeling it? Did you paint and sand in a well-ventilated area with a mask on? (This GREATLY diminishes the possibility that you hurt anything.) Also, latex paint is considered fairly safe to use during pregnancy.

Most likely, everything is fine, but I do agree with the other answerers that you should probably get checked, if for nothing other than your peace of mind. They can find a heartbeat in moments with a doppler. If your doctor can't fit you in, check your local hospital. They should have the equiptment to check.

If you've been feeling him kick regularly and now you're feeling nothing at all, then yes, you should be concered. 21 weeks isnt early for feeling movements, you're supposed to as early as 18 weeks, and most women feel their baby by 20.

Its probable that because your baby is still so small, the same size as the placenta, that he's simply moved around to where the placenta is absorbing most of his movement.

However, its cause for concern whenevr 24 hours goes by with a sudden end to movement.

Call your OB and insist, and i do mean insist, that you get checked. Simply having them listen to the heart beat is suffcient.

Dont worry about the paint, chances are it was latex, since thats what most use in their homes. There is absolutely no medical or scientific link between pregnant women painting, and defects or health issues in the baby. Absolutely none. They suggest you avoid it in the first trimester, and always stay well ventilated, just as a precaution incase they find later that their studies are wrong.

You should go to the doctor ASAP. Paint fumes can be dangerous for baby and really... pregnant women should never paint or be around wet/drying paint. Good luck.
