I've been reading horror stories about the side effects of Depo Provera and am thinking about changing over to this coil. I hear it is very uncomfortable to have it fitted but that the side effects are minimal or good, like no periods.

I'm wondering if anyone has had any problems with it and if it interferes with sex at all? Can you feel it during sex? Even during um shall we say relatively vigorous sex? Can the man feel it?

I am going through the menapause at the moment and I am steralised. My doctor recommended the Miriniam coil and sent me to see a specialist as I was having heavy periods and also a great deal of pain all month long. I had a biopsy that showed a cyst which was removed there and then and the coil fitted. It was unconfortable but mainly to do with byopsy and removal of cysts but since I have had it I have had no pain what so ever i have been spotting of and on but only just had it done so that is to be expected. I have gone from using super plus and towels to mini and no towels and and waiting for it all to settle down which it will soon.
It is a reliable contreceptive, pain free or no periods and no partner cant feel it. I did not want this done at all but am so pleased I did now as I feel great. It does increase your appitite like the pill and as long as you are sensible and eat normal you should not put weight on I have not.

Mirena is still birth control through hormones. If you're very sensitive to extra hormones than you'll be facing the same side effects. It's extremely effective with a margin of error below 1%. It's fantastic because you don't have to go on a routine with daily pills and it can stay in there for years without you ever having to deal with it. But if you're looking for something that doesn't use hormones your only options are things like condoms, diaphragms, spermicides, family planning, etc. No shots, no pills, no patches, no rings... all of those use hormones.

I have tried Mirena and had a terrible time with it. The first one I had came out in the first 2 weeks and I went back to have another one put in and ended up in the hospital with horrible pains (worse then having a baby) begging for someone to get it out. I was told that my body was rejecting it and I was having contractions. I have only known one other person with it and there only complaint was that her partner could feel it. You can also try other birth control besides Depo Provera like the patch or Nuva ring. Good luck to you!!

Hi, the mirena is a very good contraceptive, so i've heard, will take about six months for your body to adjust, but after that you will probably experience lighter periods or even none at all, the man can't feel it during sex. but and this is a very important but, do not rely on it until you have been back for a check-up to make sure it is still there, i didn't go and it had fallen out and i discovered i was pregnant for a third time, so make sure you use condoms for the first six weeks or so, this will ensure the hormone is well and truly in your system and it is very important to go and have that check-up. good luck sweetie xxxx

Its a great thing to have for birth control. I had it since 2000 and then all of a sudden this past May it decided to move into my muscle. Talking about alot of pain. It really hurt and I ended up having surgery to have it removed. As far as its side effects, I noticed shorter periods and sometimes none at all. Sex was great and your partner does not notice anything. While I had it I loved it. Just didnt like knowing that it moved on me.

No it great no periods at all for 8 years a little discomfort when first fitted, just had second one done and tiny bit of cramping for 3 days follower by a show.
The only down side is I feel I have put on a bit of weight with it.

I have and love it. No more PMS, or painful heavy periods. It didn't hurt at all getting it put it. You have some spotting off and on at first. I can't feel it and my husband says he can not feel the strings even during vigorous sex.

it's absolutely the best thing ever!!! I've had it for 4 years now. before I was on the pill, but too much hassle, remembering and stuff. now no worries at all. I have quite active sex life and no complains from any of my partners. and the best thing is that your period stops which means no pain, no PMS to sanitary towels and no mess at all. i highly recommend it
