I see it with an "e" at the end all the time and I can only figure this has got to be the reason.

I am not insulting people who misspell, because I for sure am one of them. I am trying trying to see where this is coming from.

Nanny, I am saying that kids are misspelling because of the movie, they see the movie title "The Santa Clause" and automatically put an E at the end. I saw the movie I know what it meant. Maybe others didn't understand when they saw it, and think that Santa Claus is suppose to be spelled Santa Clause. Go through this category and see how many times you see it misspelled.

Never considered that - quite insightful...

But I would bet that it does account for quite the number of misspellings...

Kind of disturbing.

It is just the opposite for me. I'm dyslexic and rely on pictures of words to help me spell. It drives me nuts when businesses misspell their name on purpose such as "Foto Xpress".
Because of "The Santa Clause" I remember to leave the "e" off when talking about the jolly guy.
My brain works backwards that way.
Remember dyslexics are teople poo ;)

It's a play on words. Claus is his last name but "Clause" is also something found in contracts and in the movie there was a Clause in his contract.

I've seen people misspelling it long before the films were ever made. Everyone will always have their own idea of how to spell things. Part of it is regional. Alot of people spell things how they sound.

No, it's not a misspelling - just referring to the "clause" in his contract. If anything, it has helped children to learn a new word!

I don't think it was the movie that messed folks up. We are becoming a nation of poor spellers and certainly have become laxed in proper language skills. The rule seems to be anything goes and is allowed so folks quit trying I think.

I've heard of people bragging about spending their Christmas watching the Star Wars Holiday special, so it can't be all bad.
