I earned around 10 pound more than you, got working tax and child tax credits and I got the grant. You can't apply till your child is born and you are receiving child tax benefits but you can apply up to three months after.

You can get a Sure Start Maternity Grant if you or your partner are getting:
Income Support
Income based Jobseeker's Allowance
Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit which includes an amount higher that the family element or
Working Tax Credit where a disability or severe disability element is included in the award.

We didn't get it - we are on only one (very low) wage and get £34 per week working tax credit but that doesn't qualify - you only get it if you have a "severe disability element" to working tax credit.
We've been told that after the baby is born we'll get Child Tax Credit as well and that should put us in the right bracket, as to get it you have to get "Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element"
So we're going to apply again after the baby is born (due 8 December).

you may be entitled to a amt grant, it will depend on what level of benifits or income tou are receiving. you can apply for it from anything upto 11 wks before your due date until 3 months after, if your not receiving tax credits yet it might be worth hanging on until the babies here!!for advise your can contact your local job centre plus office who also have a web aswell sure start have a web site.its worth looking into as there may be other entitlements that you may not know of, depending on your situation!!good luck!!

Just go to the job centre and get the form...
Then get your midwife to fill out her bit, you write in your bit, and send it off. The worst they can say is no.
But I think that you might get it since you are on a relatively low income :)

At least try applying for it and see what you are entitled to. It's possible that someone from your local welfare rights could advise you better on it.
