Certain major mental disorders and personality disorders can lead to such a life.

I agree with the lady above. Some people like being alone. Others have never had the opportunities other people may have had. I guess being alone shouldnt be considered a crime, but society has very little tolerance with anyone who is not compressed into the 'average high' and dares to stick out on any ways, those who are minorities due to behavioral or cultural differences: homossexuals and lonely people among them.

Society (media, family and peers pressure, etc) says humans should start sexual life at age "X", start thinking about having serious relationships at age "Y" and be married with children at age "Z". Those who dont follow this 'recipe' may have trouble and face prejudice.

I have a son who is lonely and has not found a partner to settle down with. I love him very much, but I do know why he is still alone. He is SELF-CENTERED. All he really thinks about is what HE wants. He wants everything on his schedule, to fit his way of life, and his agenda. SHE must be beautiful, trim, smart, organized, etc., but HE can be overweight, lazy, disorganized, forgetful...etc. If he would think about other people more than himself, he could find a mate and be happy. I have told him he needs to work for a charity and meet some other people who are out there helping others. That's a great place to meet really nice people who care more about others than themselves.

very good question...i think that most people that are lonely don't know this but they like it. i work with a girl who is always whining that she is lonely but every time a guy comes into her life she pushes him away. what is up with that? i really am starting to believe she like to be lonely and miserable. some women are impossible to make happy. everything guys say or do never make them happy. those are just the some people in this world. Me i am happy as can be. i do wish everyone could find that perfect someone but it is impossible.
