The freezer space is ALWAYS packed. There wouldnt be room for a light. Also, its very wet in there......electricity and water dont go well together.

If the light is on the top part of the fridge - It 'diffuses' through all the levels.
Imagine a similarly placed light in the freezer, Due to the way, freezers are usually packed with boxes, meat etc, the light won't 'diffuse' through out the freezer.
So. it's not going to be efficient unless you have 3 or 4 lamps - even for a small freezer, hence most makes, just leave them out - hoping you would switch on the room light instead.

This is a killer question!! It would be easy to mount a flush light of a different kind than the average person is thinking of. And contrary to what many answers have stated, you of course *could* have a light even if it was 100 below zero. Perhaps this refrigerator would cost more to the consumer but I find your question creative and a great idea to put into more models!

Maybe there is a light in your freezer, but it's been wrongly wired so it goes out when the door is opened....

because in the night you go and take a drink out to use there and then but most things you take out the freezer need to thaw + the builb would pop every time you use it
freezeing+heat of build= poped light
