It keeps them in the public eye with a quick injection for their bank accounts.
Quite often if the advert is funny of powerful it or the artist is well known the whole idea of the advert has missed the goal as most people couldn't tell you what they were advertising.
I am available for advertising as my bank would be pleased.

Celebrities will put their names on anything to sell them and make a quick million. Take for instance a celeb who does a commerical or advertising for a company, let's say Britney Spears back in 2000 or whatever year it was. She did a commerical for Pepsi (I think, not sure). That commerical netted her with 18 million. Can you say 18 million, all for a commerical!!!!!
Celebs just want and care only about the money that's all. If there was a new revolutionary toilet paper developed I bet you a celeb would put his/her name on it faster than you can say "Oops I did it again"

Well it actually takes much less time than a tv show or movie and they get paid shed loads of cash.
The only reason more celebs DON'T do it is because it "lowers the value of their brand" i.e. people think they must be hard up or just cheap to hire.
However this is only true in western culture as in the east (Japan/ Korea) it's seen as normal to work as much as possible. In fact if you're a celeb in Japan and not on TV all the time you're not considered very important.
(Hence the japanese have these shows in which celebs gather to watch another tv show and you watch it with them and get to see their reactions to whats going on in a small box at the top corner of the screen.)

i know. They get loads of money for appearing in adverts. David Beckham got something like 40million to be the face of gillett aswell as earning about £100,000 a week and has millions in the bank why does he need to do it. £40million could have gone to worldwide charities.

Nah course not, theres always room in the bank for a few thou more.
The main thing is that they just wanna keep themselves in the limelight. Otherwise, how would programs like Im a celebrity... get their participants....;

Yes, they seem to need the cash!
Saw little Ray Winstone doing one yesterday (can't remember for what though) - food ad I think.
Celebs help sell it is as simple as that.
Beckham was used extensively for example.
Kate Moss seems to help make up sales.
Don't think I'm ever influenced however - nope, no make up on my dressing table!

I think we'd really be surprised at how little some celebs actually HAVE. Sure they might make tons of money in one year, but alot of them are really stupid and spend tons of their money on stuff they don't need ($4000 dollar hand bags, etc). They have to keep making more money to keep up their shallow lifestyles.
