Depends on when you're talking about. Slavery in the 18th/19th century was a horrendous and brutal regime; slaves were strictly property and could be treated as such - beaten, starved and generally treated like dirt. Slavery under the Roman Empire was comparitively benign; slaves then had numerous protections, were guaranteed food, housing and a certain standard of living. If you were unable to provide these, you would not be allowed to keep slaves.

Slaves were better off. Most owners would care for their health, as the owners didn't want to lose their property.

Sure, there was abuse of slaves, but if you compare their lives with the lives of minimum wage workers, you'll see the minimum wage workers are not physically bound, but restricted by debt and poverty. Where you going to be able to go if you're in debt over your head, and you can't afford to travel anywhere to get a better job?

Minimum wage workers also have to endure poor safety conditions, poor health conditions at work and home, disrespect and abuse from management and ownership. I've witnessed sexual harassment, psychological abuse, and just common disrespect from coworkers and management for low wage workers and undocumented aliens, who don't even make minimum wage.

I would have to say minimum wage workers. Slaves had no options to find other "employment" or to better themselves. Minimum wage workers can find other jobs that pay more, or can go to school to improve their skills.

I think that you can draw some strong parallels.

Today though there are some good things.

The point is that the slaves were left out of having a share or the good things in life & that is the way it is with the poor still today.

Just living from day today, with little hope of a bright tomorrow

Minimum wage workers of today have it far better. I mean, at least they don't get their toes cut off if they run away from their job.

That depend from country to country, and from time to time. Sincerely I do not know much about the living of slaves back then in time. Gladiators at the time of Roman Empire was seen as very attractive by the womens then. Providing as he would escape alive from the fight he could it have part of a "nice night party" sometimes.

Probably slaves. Even though they were not paid, most were given free room and board. Even though they were property, they were treated as well as other property. Contrary to popular belief (Nancy O), they were not "tortured and raped" on a regular basis--what good is a slave who can't work because he's hurt.

Minimum wage workers get paid so little they can't afford room and board. Their working conditions are piss-poor, and most lack the skills to improve their situations.
