I have always used synthetic oil in all my vehicles. My Chevrolet S-10 V6 2.8 has over 230,000 miles on it and I use it to tow a trailer on a regular basis. Since synthetic oil is not petroleum, it does not "coke" or sludge in the engine due to heat cycles. If you intend on keeping the vehicle for a long time and the mileage isn't too high at this time, then it is worth the extra money for the synthetic. If you trade every 2 or 3 years, I'd stick with the conventional oil.

Yes you are able to change to synthetic and there are different viscousness (thicknesses) of these oils unlike previously said in another answer, theres some synthetic oils lately that have magnetic properties in them so after you have switched your engine off and goto jump back in the car later that you are not damaging your engine by having bare metal parts rubbing against each other, you see after you switch your engine off all the oil slowly goes back down to the oil sump these oils seek to prevent that, that is also why it is bad to revv the engine when u first get into your car in the morning.

the primary advantage of synthetic oil is longer intervals between changes - however the interval is only double that of regular oil, and the synthetic costs about 4 times as much.

I can't really see much of a difference. The key is regular preventative maintenance, including oil changes every 5000 miles or so.

IF YOU HAVE A OLDER VEHICLE DO NOT CHANGE A SIT WILL LEAK. IF YOU HAVE A NEW CAR OR JUST REBUILT YOUR ENGINE IT IS VERY GOOD OIL . LESS WEAR ON ENGINE PARTS BATTER STARTS IN COLD WEATHER AND BETTER MILEAGE ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS. ALSO A REDUCTION IN THE AMOUNT OF OIL CHANGES YOU WOULD DO DEPENDING ON YOUR DRIVING HABITS
