John Cooper was an engine tuner back in the sixties. He specialised in tuning the original Minis. The Cooper Minis had great success in various motor sports. Later it became the name of the sportier Minis. When BMW owned Rover they designed the new Mini. After they sold Rover they kept the rights to the Mini and Cooper names.
