There's a number of places you could enjoy on New Years Eve in Melbourne.

Normally, a lot of people crowd the city near Flinders Station, and on Southbank to catch the fireworks display. The restaurants are open, so you can always have dinner, catch the display and then stay on for drinks. Of course, the bigger the group the better.

If you are more into clubbing, a lot of the nightclubs have special events for the Eve. Tickets are usually available several weeks in advance, and the crowds are quite big. Several pubs will also be pretty crowded with live bands, etc.

Try the Crown complex. Pretty much everything happening there. Alternatively, try Chapel Street in South Yarra where clubs tend to buzz till the wee hours.

Enjoy!
