As with all piercings you will feel something, but how bad it is will really depend on you. If you take 2-3 Motrin about 30 minutes before hand and try to relax, it shouldn't be that bad. Take deep breaths, listen to the piercer and you'll be okay. Good piercers don't use numbing spray or any kind of topical anesthetic.

Most of the pain comes from the healing period when you have to be careful. Bumping this area or laying on it will be annoying for the first few days, but after 1-2 weeks general pain will go away

Trust me...if it hurt THAT bad, no one would even get piercings.

Honestly, its not that painful. I remember the pain of getting my ears pierced but not the pain of my belly button.
Make sure you trust the person who will do the piercing and that they adhere to the right hygiene standards, these are the things you should be worry about.
If you want it so much, it is really going to be worth it for just a few seconds of pain....an anesthetic injection at the dentist is worse.
Good luck!

My first consideration would be do you have your ears pierced ? If so did you think that was painful at all? If you answered YES to both ....then i wouldn't recommend it. Otherwise i personally didn't find it painful...uncomfortable but not painful. i suppose a lot of it depends on the piercer. i found the most uncomfortable thing was the clamp that they use. If you don't like needles then DONT watch....i find if you watch whats going on you stay in control of the feeling...which is rather strange. It is probably more painful a few days later...a little stingy. GOOD LUCK

It is not painful at all. I have had my belly button pierced 7 times. I have never been able to keep it though because I play sports. So do make sure your not playing sports while having it in. If you wanna know something that is painful get your nose pierced, but I didn't keep that either.

I didnt find it painfull at all, in fact i thought that my ears hurt more. I had mine pierced nearly 10 years ago. When i had it done i had to sit on this like swival chair and i just sat back and closed my eyes it was over in seconds. The lady said right its pierced now and when i looked down the needle was sticking right through!! lovely!

Just make sure wherever you go it is clean and they show you the needle in its packaging and its a brand new one. Go to a respectable tattooist/piercing place, well establised. Be brave its worth it!

Oh yer and if you do get it done LEAVE IT ALONE. dont touch it except to gently clean it and do not take the original bar/ring out for at least a few months else it will go funny. I kept mine in for 6 months and never had a problem with it. My friends at school hated the basic rings/bars that theirs had been pieced with and they were all quick to change them to more fashionable ones, theirs went all gammy and septic. Mine didnt!

I'm not going to tell u it's not painful... it is according to my own DD (dear daughter) but I am going to warn u to be very, very careful where u get it done at and by who. Make sure they don't clamp too much skin between the holes.

My own dd got to running a fever & we went to the doctor. Her friend was not so lucky, it became infected and the sepsis travel from the belly button to the heart. She is lucky to be alive.

Turns out the place that they had it done had several operators where sanitation wasn't followed to the letter of law. It was touch and go for quite awhile. She has permanent damage to her heart. Her sports career is on hold... Both girls were following directions given, but they couldn't see the bacteria at the shop. A couple of others were as lucky... they contracted flesh eating bacteria.

My own DD wouldn't heal and found out she had a allergy to the jewelry. She needed expensive rings which limits her ablity to change to match outfit or design... she said she wish she had listen to her Dad who told her if God wanted her to have holes there he would have put them there.

Yeah we can laugh about it, but at the time... we were so fearful that our DD would suffer as her friends. I wish u nothing but the best. Please ck them out very, very closely. And if u fluctuate in weight gain and loss know that will affect the appearance if your not careful

I know a lot of big weenies that have had it done lol. I personally haven't experienced it yet but I do have an industrial done and if I can sit through that you can certainly take a belly button peircing. I have heard many times you don't even feel it until it's over.

i had mine done it only stung for about 1min but its the looking after it that's a bit of a pain you have to put warm water and salt in a tiny glass or egg cup then put it over your belly button and swish it about , you have to do this 4 or 5 times a day !!

Be sure to go to a piercer with a LOT of experience so they can do it quickly and properly. It is minorly uncomfortable for only seconds.

Bring your IPod - play something you love, close your eyes and sing the words to it in your head and it will totally distract you.
