It is a long, heavily populated sand bar island upon which a section of Venice, Italy is built upon. It is famous for casino gambling and the Venice Film Festival. A lot of movie house, bars, restaurants, and other establishments draw their names from the Lido.

The island also gives its name to a kind of swimming pool, which is both outdoors and that floats. For instance, the Lido deck of a cruise ship is where you'll find the pool.
