make in into a story.
for example if you need to remember this words:
phone-book
house
ruler
phone
coffee
make it into a story like this:
one day i open the PHONE-BOOK because i was looking for a HOUSE. i was scanning the pages with a RULER when the PHONE rang. when i reached over to answer it, i knocked over my cup of COFFEE.
i tried memorizing 40 words in this manner and was done with all 40 words by the time my friend got back from the washroom. its interesting and effective. TRY IT! =)

Well, although 40 minutes isn't much time, it can be done. I use several tecniques. With Spanish, I try to make the word look more familiar by taking it apart and writing it down with images whenever possible. Here's an example:
Muey Bien would be "MOO E" and a picture of a bee or just "Be Yen". This helps with both memory and pronunciation. Here's another way.
I don't know if you can learn these memory tricks and your list of Spanish words in 40 minutes, but here's a website that can help.

I would usually highlight the word you are trying to memorize. For me saying the word and definition out loud several times to yourself works for me.

I use to draw little pictures next to the spanish word to help me remember what it means...
and I would just write them over and over to remember how to spell them
good luck

connect with pictures.
e.g.
- beside the word 'naranja' draw a nice cOoL Orange.
- now write the spanish word twice, cover the words you just wrote and try to write the same word for the third time.
-repeat this method with your study [not only with words ..!!]
tadaa
you Will NEVER forget it, Ever.
cheers
