Sometimes. Sometimes saying nothing is best. Other times, you need to speak up. Some people talk too much & reveal their stupidity. If you don't know what you're talking about it's better to keep quiet. Often wise people are silent because they're busy thinking & their words are chosen carefully. When they do speak, it's to say something meaningful...

Silence is wise in certain situations. Sometimes it is better to say nothing in some situations rather than speak up and get shot down.
I had an experience that matched this issue. I was walking past four large men who were putting a couch on their shoulders to carry it up a ladder and into a living room. I was sure that they would drop the couch and perhaps even one of them would get hurt, but I am a small man and they would not have listened to me. I have also found that telling large men what they cannot do makes them more determined to do it. That could have been more dangerous.
They dropped the couch! Fortunately none of them fell off the ladder with the couch.
A little old lady watching them stopped me and told me to go help them. At first I looked at her funny and then I decided to go help.
I told them to tie a rope around one side of the couch and drag it up the ladder, which they did. One guy even asked me if it was alright if he followed the couch up the ladder. I told him to do so, but keep the center of the couch centered on the ladder.
The couch made it into the second floor living room. The owner was then heard screaming as he saw his new damaged couch put in place in his home.
I was able to help, but only after the damage was done. If I had attempted to help before the accident happened my help may never have been utilized.
Take care,
Troy

I would totally agree on that.
But , at the same time, I feel it does not mean that one should be silent all the time and at all the places. When , in the company of many , each one is throwing up views on any subject, it would be prudent to observe silence so that you can listen to the others` view point.
Totally apart from this , I would say, if one can keep silent for a day in a month it will do a lot of good.

Yes, wisdom often dictates silence in preference to garrulous communication. Unspoken words often convey more than spoken ones. Spoken words often even end up in mis-conveying.
But then all said and done, wisdom reflects the best in a few appropriate words than in total silence, unless action is the means of communication which does always speak louder than words!!

Silence is golden, because a wise action that's well thought out and not haughtily done in lieau of words is all the more potent.

No, silence can only project a mystique of possible wisdom.
True wisdom speaks enlightenment to those who hear.

Not to quote Shakespeare but I believe he said it this way: Better to be silent and thought a fool than speak and prove it.
