I have already asked this but I need a bit more information. I don't mean to spam. I am a first time novelist writing a novel set in Lubbock, texas. It is about a spunky, rebellious 16-year old girl who falls in love with a quiet, artistic girl at her school. So my novel can be as realistic as possible, what is it like for gays and lesbians who live in Lubbock? From what I've heard it is a pretty conservative town. Are people there very religious? Is there a high incidence of violence against LGBT people? any information would be great. Thanks!

Go live there and experience the life first hand. Don't go by what others tell you if you want your book to be lifelike. You need to live the life to report on it.

I'm actually in Houston, but fellow students from Lubbock always say it's uber conservative like any small city would be. Of course there's always cases of small cities where they love someone in everyway because they know them as an individual even if they frown upon "the lifestyle" they believe to be a sin. In small city schools there are cliques just like larger schools and high schoolers often feel more threatened by difference at an age where change is going on around them, what with having come to a new school, getting ready to move onto the rest of their life, working, sex, peer pressure, and often leaving the only friends they've ever known...

I'm from England and have never been to Lubbock, or Texas for that matter, so i can't help ya.
Good luck with the novel though.
And nice Ani D reference in your name by the way ;-)

And good grief, ignore the idiots (see pure race above) that post nothing but intolerance and lack of understanding.
Gudo, it's not like the world is overun with lesbian stories (there aren't enough in my book!) If you don't want to read them then don't read them!

Well I'm in oklahoma and my partner and I have never experienced any type of hate. Her father is also a minister and loves us to death. I'm assuming that since I'm in the bible belt and don't experience violence here, then those in texas may not experience it either...good luck in your novel.

Hitler should have exterminated all you faggots together with your black monkey friends!!!! Pity we lost the battle but the war still continues. Victory shall be ours once we rid the world of all you vermin (blacks and faggots). Dont know which ones we cant stand more. Anyone like me out there. Join my holy cause. Preservation of our type!!!!
PS (Go to the Flying High Club in Washington. If you see anyone with the 666 tatoo, they will take you to the first meeting)
