The Beatles and U2 have both brought uniqueness and originality to the music scene. No one will ever be bigger than The Beatles. But if there's anyone today that could be compared to them, it's U2.
U2 has led some of the best tours ever in rock (Zoo TV, the slightly less successful but extremely inventive PopMart, Elevation and Vertigo tours). U2's songs also have a weight that The Beatles songs don't have.
If you're measuring pure musicianship, you have to go with The Beatles.
U2's blueprint for music is: whatever kinda music they are listening to, they will write a song in that genre and will still have the U2 "feel" in it. They've written rock, punk, country, techno, jazz, etc...but they've done it in a way that didn't completely abandon their original sound. There were simply never be another U2.
Even though The Beatles are legendary, I say U2 takes the cake. Plus U2 has stayed together longer. The same four members for over 20 years and they've only gotten better. That is unheard of.

My two favorite bands all time! The Beatles started a huge pop revolution and were very innovative in their time but I think over all that U2 has better songs. Both have been amazing contributors to the music world!

What, are you kidding me?
The Beatles by a long, long, long way.
The Beatles are unquestionably (along with the Rolling Stones) one of the greatest bands to ever walk the earth. U2 are quite simply not in the same league as the Beatles.
Do you own any Beatle albums? I f not try to get your hands on some - especially Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. It's fantastic

good Q .... I bet most would say The Beatles .... and it is a close one ... But, I believe U2 should have the advantage ... they have been U.N. PeaceKeepers and helper of 3rd world countries in the present as opposed to the past ....
