You don't need to drink milk to make milk.

There is no specific food that a breastfeeding mom needs and really no special diet of "do and don't eat" for all breastfeeding moms to follow. Eat a balanced diet of many foods in as close to their natural state as possible. Stay well hydrated. You can have caffeine (like Coke, coffee, chocolate) but should do so in moderation.

Yes, everything you put into your body can end up in your milk.

Milk is produced on a supply and demand process. The more your child nurses (or the more you pump) the more milk you will make.

What you eat while breast feeding your baby does not actually turn into breast milk. Your breasts will produce milk regardless of what you eat. However, a well balanced diet helps to keep your own body healthy and aids in milk production. Drinking milk will not increase your milk supply, but it is an important part of a healthy diet. Drinking Coke is OK as long as you are not drinking too much. For your own health, drink water and low fat milk most often and drink Coke only occasionally. What will best increase your milk supply for your baby is nursing him/her frequently. The more you breast feed, the more your body will recognize the need for more breast milk production. It takes more calories to breast feed a baby and you should eat 3 good meals a day plus several snacks. You can contact your local La Leche League or visit their website http://www.lalecheleague.org for a lot of good information about breast feeding. The hospital where you delivered your baby will also have a lactation consultant who will be happy to help you with any questions you may have.

what you eat doesn't become milk but it could affect the content of the milk. example, some medicines should not be taken by nursing mothers because some toxic substances could be ingested by your baby through the milk. milk is produced by the glands in your breast. you will continue to produce milk as long as your baby is suckling. drinking milk does not increase milk supply but it adds to the nutrients. so eat and drink healthy!
