Some people just try to stay on the right side of everyone, so they tell people what they think they want to hear. It is also a way of trying to gain friends. People who are two faced are weak on many levels, so they become manipulative, it's a survival thing, and unfortunately human nature. Try not to take it to heart, try to create a social circle of stronger people.

Not everyone is, but those who are have nothing better to do than be that way. That's why!
Also they are actually very insecure and jealous people, those who say things about others are actually in a way talking of themselves. They obviously aren't happy with themselves and so to take the attention off of themselves they are 2 faced about others.
