It depends on how far the toilet will flush. You can't win without pitching. The Cubs have 1 outstanding pitcher, Zambrano. He would the the Cy young if he played on any other team. Next year he will probably be the Cy Young winner. But you need more than one ace. You can't count on wood or Prior. Their Bullpen is crap, although if Cotts can come back to form he will be excellent. Yeah, are going to have a great 234 punch with Soriano, Ramierez and Lee, but after that it falls off. Barrett is a decent offensive catcher, but Derosa is not the answer, he's a chump. The Cubs will be better and maybe make a run at first in the central. I'm not saying this because I hate the Cubs, I do, but without pitching you can't go anywhere. Look at the Tigers, Twins, Cardinals, they all had stellar pitching staffs, the Cardinals turned it up in the post season after having an average year with their starters. The Mets had a potent offense but after injuries to their starters, they couldn't get it done. I still firmly believe that if the White Sox would have had any sort of decent pitching in their bullpen we would have won 10 more games and been playoff bound. It all comes down to pitching. Now if the CUbs go out and sign one more big starter and get some relief help, then I'll start believing that they could make the playoffs.
Also, They are the Cubs people, they'll always find a way to loose.

Ughhhhh.... It's Alfonso Soriano, Rafael is a relief pitcher for the Mariners. And DeRosa had a career-year last season, so I consider that a risky signing by Hendry. If Derrek and Aramis are healthy, than we have a fearsome 3-4 combo. But we still need pitching, at least two more starters and a right-handed reliver. They'll go as for as their pitching will take them.

They might make the playoffs. The N.L Central will be the most open division in Baseball next season. If Kerry Wood can stay the Cubs should have a good bullpenn to back up Zambrano etc. Lee, Soriano, and Rameriez should be a good middle of the order. Pinella will push the players more than Baker ever did.

As you saw from last years Mets team (and any Yankee lineup) - you can have the best line up in baseball and still lose. BECAUSE OF PITCHING.
Letting Mark Prior go was a good first step in rehab for the cubs but
Resigning Kerry Wood better not be their only pitching move.
I like the Cubs line up if Derek Lee can play a whole year but...
...Pitching, Pitching and Pitching
With the Astros signing Carlos Lee - it will not be easy for the Cubs but they will be exciting to watch.

The Cubs have a very chance of winning the NL Central.
Remember St Louis won that division this year with only 83 wins.
Once they make the playoffs they could go a incredible run (much like The Cardinals did) and make The Big Dance.
Winning the world series will be tough though.

You mean ALFONSO SORIANO! And with his addition , we are playoff-bound. The Astros wil give us a run for the NL Central, but we will hold them off. Sweet Lou is going to do some good for us!

They'll definately be a better team. I say the playoffs are up in the air. While they will be better, they aren't World Series material. Not yet anyway.
