That's a tough question with no easy answer. When I first started with a PC 10 years ago there wasn't an Internet to ask questions on so I had to resort to the good old tried and tested method of reading up on it in my local Library. Nowadays you can come onto a forum like this and just ask. Unfortunately you have no idea as to the quality of the information ( answers) you get. So how do you tell whats good and whats bad advice. In the first instance, use you help files on your PC, then go to somewhere like Microsoft Knowledge Base, read computer magazines like Computer Active that are written in easy to understand language. Finally, ask on a forum and takes your best guess. Bottom line, learn about your PC yourself, get a basic understanding and then you will be better informed and able to judge what appears to be good advice or not.
There are some nice people out there that remember their early days with the mysteries of their PC's that are more than willing to share their knowledge, others just want to show off and "pretend" they are experts. You need to learn a little yourself to be able to decide. Best of Luck

Wait until a few answers come in! See what the majority is suggesting.
Do your own research...Google It!
Most of the setting changes on Windows can be reversed if you notice no improvement.

Use your common sense... try the various solutions and see what works - at the end of the day, a solution that doesn't work is better than no solution at all... Also remember that nobody is going to give you instructions to destroy your machine!

your best bet is to check an official computing company, such as PC world as i'd imagine they have trouble shooting pages?
microsoft is a good trouble shooting page(s) too.
Remember, whatever product you're wanting to use/modify/buy etc, check their official site.

You should check their credentials. If they have none then don't talk their answer as being necessarily true.
