On the contrary, I think there is only one bad thing in world that happens at all. Only we feel as if too many things are happening all at once. Or, we think that things keep happening again and again to everybody, as it is in my case. The only thing is that different people take it differently, and then we individually keep change each time it happens to us. You may not believe me but the proper realisation of this fact would not be possible just by considering the death a pet chicken one day and the cat the other. But the truth is in the way we feel and think about all these kind of things. It is always the same. There can be only one thing that can cause the same emotional response each time. But we would not feel the same for the same thing happening if we would not change and become new people each time. No one can cry upon the loss of anything twice with equal intensity. It will be less or more but never the same. It is not deep it is just different.
So there are not too many bad things in the world only one bad thing, and when that bad thing happens it is often up to us to make one thing into too many all at once. This is the magic of our own mind.

Life tends to go along in upwards or downwards patterns, hence bad things happening at the same time, and likewise with good times. There's also the fact that if the first bad thing knocks you for six, you might react in a more negative way to the next setback, so your interpretation might be that something is negative when it's more neutral. In any case, you're probably on a downward trend at the moment, but hang in there - things will get better, and when you're on a positive streak, everything good will happen at once! The bad times are never permanent, however bad they seem. So hang in there, and things WILL get better.

Bad luck.. well its a chain reaction. One major bad thing happens then your stressed out. Which then makes it easier to stress about the littler things that normally wouldn't bother you. I dont think it comes all at once, we make normal things turn out bad because we are only looking for the bad or negative when something bad has happened to us. Positive thoughts always help. My counselor has me do a daily journal... always write 3 positive things down about the previous day and possibly what i would chage if i could do it now that I look back.(i no longer do this) but still its a good exercise to get into because it makes you always think about the positive in situations ;o) things happen for a reason, we just dont know the "real reason" yet... maybe the Yet comes when we die, and get to look back on our life and the changes we made in ourselves and others. Hope your next few days turn around for the better, and dont beat yourself down.

Good question!!
I can think of three possibilities.
First is the chain effect. When something really goes wrong, we get upset and make more mistakes and misjudgements and thus become prone to further mishaps.
Second is cascade.... the fact that when something bad happens, it impacts us so as to weaken us making us more vulnerable. For example, if a fall breaks a leg, we then have to move with one leg making our movements further unsafe.
Third is the cognisance factor. If one bad happens and things then straighten out, we do not remember it much. If and when it is further followed up by other mishaps, we take greater cognisance of it and remains in our memory horizon more prominently and longer too.

Maybe just seems that way because when you're down... it's easier to be knocked that little bit more when you're up and on top... but when you are on good form again... you can handle things better... I had an awful year of 2005 and thought could I possibly get any more bad luck and I did... 2006 had been a much better year... here's to 2007 and hoping it's even better...

Yeah i have noticed that too.
Sometimes it happens in three's or four's.
So count your blessings.
I have noticed good luck happens at once too then it lasts for a while and then it goes away for sometime. Until one day i see look at all this good luck again!!!!
I wish i could predict it. Next time it happens i plan to play the lotto.

There's no such thing as destiny, pre-ordained plan or karma....to think otherwise is using CAVE MAN logic to explain the unknown. We do have a law however that reflects this situation.....the all pervasive 2nd Law of Thermodynamics (AKA: entropy) and its corresponding corollaries found in Murphy's Law.

When something really bad happens, your senses become tuned to the bad occurence and when other, usually insignificant, bad things occur, the magnitudes of such occurences are magnified.
