3400+ 939 is 2.2 GHz and 512 KB L2 cache. 4400+ is two x 2.2 GHz processors each with 1024 KB L2. Most applications are currently single thread and will not be any faster unless they use the extra L2 cache space. It will be faster on running more than one application at the same time or, for at least some of the time, when the application uses multiple-threads. Depending on the data used, the latter can also produce much slower speeds using 2 CPUs. See RandMP in:

At least my 2.2 GHz dual core runs cool, but this has 512 KB L2 caches. See:

Your room would get a few degrees warmer! AMDs run hot! You would only notice a 30 to 50% improvement when you are running more than one program. (Unless you do alot of rendering in Photo Shop)
