ITV takeover troublesome for VIRGIN

Branson is losing credibility. He was once seen as an underdog hero (Virgin Atlantic v BA), but it started going downhill when he invested in Rail. Replacing coaching stock with small DMU's was a blunder.

Also, Virgin Mobile formed an alliance with cable operator NTL, who have a dreadful reputation for customer service. This had no chance against the rich and powerful (though odious) Murdoch empire, who won ITV.
