I know shutouts aren't all that common in the NFL, but when you do see one, it is usually atleast 10, 13 or 17 -0. What's up with this? Why no 3 -0 shutouts? Thanks.

There were a couple yesterday, but they were like 27 -0 and 30 - 0. This exactly what I'm talkin' about.

TOO MUCH OFFENSE

generally in football if a team can score one touch down or one field goal they can score another. it's all in how their offense plays against the other teams defensive line. there have been instances in the past where there have been 7-0 scores they are just rare. when a team scores a touchdown it's 6 points then they get a 'free kick' which counts as one point. if the kicker misses that kick they suck. if a team feels they can't make the touchdown and they are in a field goal range they kick a field goal and it's worth 3 points. and if it were a 3-0 'shut out' the game would basically suck. and if they win with only one complete play the whole game it would just not be any fun to watch for the most part. generally if a team isn't going to score at all their either their offense sucks or the other teams defense is just amazing. so if an offensive line can score once they can generally score again. it's all in how good each line of each team is. that's the best explanation i can give.

Well if you get a shut-out you usually hold the ball most of the game. That means the opposing D gets worn out by the 4th and if nothing else you start scoring then. That game the Steelers played Jacksonville was actually still 3-0 going into the fourth.

back in the days of old scholl football, you would see 0-0 ties and 3-0 shutouts. that was the 1920's and 1930's. today, offenses are so complex. teams have players that are superstars and they make so many plays all over the field. the opposing defense's that play against them are generally shitty as hell.

Might be because when one team is so psychologically disconnected for that particular game it is possible for the other team to walk all over them and score like crazy. If both teams were at their peak performance, then you might see a score like 3-0 or even 0-0 if that were possible. When both teams are psychologically wrecked and evenly matched then you would see a score like120-114.

an hour is too long for an offense to only score once. Plus everyone makes mistakes weather its defense letting up a big play of an offensive TD going the other way.
