There is a small 15mm diameter pipe at the front of the Freelander engine on the near side by the wheel. It protrudes downwards just behind the front bumper? There is smoke or steam coming out of mine lately!! That can't be right can it?!!I

Just guessing that it's an Eberspacher or Webasto auxillary heater exhaust pipe.

Is it a TDi??

I have had a couple of Freelanders and the only thing I can think of is that it is the air intake. One other thought is that it is the outlet for your air conditioning unit.

I'd never had a car with air con before my first Freelander and I remember finishing a journey from Birmingham in the summer and thinking I had split a radiator pipe when all this water appeared on the ground under the bonnet. Felt like a right twit when I discovered what it really was. Perhaps this is the answer.

Sounds to me... it could be
1. blow-by from the engine crankcase?
2. drain from your heater core case (same drain that drips in the summer time when the A/C is on
3. sometimes there is a charcoal canister filter up there for some emmisions... but I'd call the local dealer... they wont laugh at you while your on the phone... just during break time witht he other mechanics if it is something obvious. ;o)
