11x - 4 = 9x + 50
11x - 4 - 9 x = 9x + 50 - 9x
2x - 4 = 50
2x - 4 + 4 = 50 + 4
2x = 54
2x/2 = 54/2
x = 27
The answer is x = 27
Insert the x value into the equation
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Check
11x - 4 = 9x + 50
11(27) - 4 = 9(27) + 50
297 - 4 = 243 + 50
293 = 293

11x-4=9x+50
subtract 9x from both sides
2x-4=50
add 4 to the other side
2x=54
divide 54 by 2
x=27

All you need to do is take 9x from 11x, then add 4 to cancel on one side and to get the 54 on the other side....then your left with...
2x=54....and you divide both sides by 2 and you get 27=x. Check your answer by plugging 27 back in to the x's in the original problem.
However, my telling you this is not going to help you understand how to do these things on the test, so i suggest you talk to your teacher about it. It would suck to get to test time and not know what your doing.
