Hi. I'm in Okinawa, and just found my first gecko in the house. I don't want the little guy to dehydrate or starve. Maybe he will be okay by himself, but what can I do? I put out a shallow water dish. But on the food...short of letting lose insects on my floor (don't want to do that!), are there any options? I do have cockroaches and the like, but I am concerned that he may need more. I hope I don't sound obsessed -- I just like geckos and want to help the little guy if I can. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

If you found the little guy in your house, he can probably get back out again. And you're right in saying that there are lots of buggies roaming around your house for him to eat, and water sources, too (he's survived this long, after all.)

You can offer him food - mealworms and silkworms, for example, can be placed in a shallow dish in a corner, available for your gecko to eat but not 'lose' in the house. You can also provide a shallow water dish, a heat lamp above some plants. He'll make himself right at home :)

I'm sure he will be fine. He found a way into the house, and probably wouldn't stay there if he couldn't survive there. If he needs food or water he'll probably find his way back outside the same way he came in. Also, if you start putting out bugs he wont want to leave and perhaps begin to rely on you as a source of food. I think just putting out the water is fine, but for the most part he can take care of himself. I know how you feel though, I have a pet leopard gecko and am a reptile lover, I'm such a protective mother when it comes to my gecko.

i imagine he rocks. fantastically even as he did the robotic thingy with the 'business corporation president'. a lot extra useful than the 'we employed an actor' commercials. My fave is the 'i'm purely right here for Geico. enable's no longer delve into me own life, luv' one. So cool. And the mini cup of espresso he has in the different 'interview' one. like it. i'd like between the crammed ones in the adventure that they ever come out with them!

Call your local pet store. They may have some gecko food. Otherwise, they will give you some suggestions.

If you want him to stick around you can buy some mealworms. If you hold them out to his mouth (you can use feeder tweasers if you are squimish), he will eat them right from you hand. He may need to stick his tongue out a few times first to smell the air, but once he gets a wiff, he'll grab it right out of you fingers.
