Hi,

My friend has just bought a PSP, supposed to be English version but turns out all manuals etc are in Japanese! It does have an adapter to allow it to work with UK electricity supplies, but what about games and UMD's? Will it play all games bought in the UK, and movies (UMD's) ok? Also will the language be in english in the games etc? Thanks so much in advance.

ALL Japanese PSP's are region free!!!

In it's factory state, a Japanese import PSP's will play movies from any region - USA, UK, JAP etc. That is, until you accept a software update from a game! Alot of new games (and some of the old ones too) require you to software upgrade (included on the Game UMD) before allowing you to play. Once you do this, you open region PSP will be locked to the region that the game originated in. So, for example, if you insert a USA game, with a software upgrade, and you accept the upgrade, your PSP will only be able to play USA region UMD movies. The best thig is to not accept any upgrades for the software, and that way you will be able to watch any UMD movie from any region.
If you HAVE o upgrade, do it with a game from your region, and that way you will stil be able to buy and play movies relatively easily.
Within the PSP, you can switch the language to English without much difficulty, so whoever will be using it, will have no clue that it was Japanese. Like wise, once the language is set on the PSP, the games will boot up in that language.

Yes, you will be able to play Japanese games, but they will be in Japanese, lol. any games will work on the psp, the only thing that will not play is a movie with a different region code, unless you have a hacked psp.

Well, I can't be absolutely sure about Japanese ones, but I bought my PSP in Brunei (South East Asia) and it works fine with games bought in the UK.
