My sister has a laptop computer and right now its hooked up to cable internet connection. She would like to get out of having the wire hooked up to her laptop and go to a wireless cable connection. What would she need to buy to do this? Please explain this to me so that I can tell her.

She'll need a wireless router to connect her modem through. And for the laptop, she'll need a wireless PCMCIA card or wireless USB adapter, preferably from the same manufacturer as the router. If it's a recent laptop it may already have an inbuilt wireless card in it.

So, you have a dsl going to a wireless router? And no sig. Try a LAN cable from the router to the computer. If no signal then it may be the router. If there is a signal, leave it connected, and run the setup for the router. then run the setup wizard for the internet connection. Setup the wireless, then disconnect the cable. Most routers setup require to be physically connected to the computer to be setup. Once the router is setup, then any other computer can be setup even wireless with just knowing the settings made when setting up the router, such as id and password.

1. She needs to buy a wireless router - that costs about $50 now.
2. Check to see if her laptop is equiiped with a built in wireless internet connection card - if not, she can buy one. Probably about the same price as a router, I'm not sure.
Any computer store will be able to help her.

Buy wireless cable router device ex: Linksis or other. Hook it up to your cable.If your laptop does not have wifi capability, buy wifi pcmcia card or usb. Both easy to setup & install.
