People alive at the time and affected by the event often hold a grudge. They teach their children to hold that grudge too. It creates racism and anger. You have the tight idea. We can't forget the event or the lesson learned from it by we have to let go of the anger.

Yes let go of the past but learn from it. If you burn your finger you learn not to do it again. If you don,t deal with the past it will control you. I,m not saying it is easy to do , but it should be something you work on. I know some people that are mad about something in their past that are miserable. For myself I learned that if I forgive I grow from the experience and I am open to learn more about myself. I have forgiven physical, sexual abuse and some stupid stuff I,ve done to my own life. It let me go, to grow into a better person. I'm not saying I trust who or what I've forgiven, I forgave them to let MY live go on and grow more loving.

You will never forget the past. And I wouldn't want to. I want to remember my parents and relatives who have past away. Letting go of the hurt of their passing is learning and moving on.
Mistakes you've made you can not change. You can remember and try to learn from them.

Take what you have learned and move on. Those events, people, etc., were there in the past to teach - not to have you hang on for dear life to what happened.

When you forgive, you do not forget - instead you understand that it happened, learn the necessary lessions from it, and move on to make your life and the lives of others around you better.

We can certainly try but what we are today is a direct result of our past & we really cant forget. Realistically speaking we need to forgive rather than forget. We need to be greatful for each opportunity we get to make our futures better than any sadness we experienced in the past.

i don't think we should "let go" of the past per se, but being able to get past the incidences without any animosity or being able to move on without an anger is a better way. letting go would mean that we just forget about the past, but if we do that then we never learn any lessons. so, we shouldn't let go of the past, but we should move on with no hard feelings.

No. If we let go of the past, we let go of history. If people hadn't made history, be it in wars or research, most of us wouldn't be here. We're in a position to learn from what happened years ago

Unless the person keeps making it worse, I would slowly try to be their friend, but never let it completely go away, or we could make the same mistake all over the again.

Yes, if past events are bothering you. Think of today and tomorrow and never indulge in revisiting the past ugly moments
of your life. Be proactive...

If we completely let go, then we only make the same mistakes over and over. We should remember and learn from them.

Pessimists tend to think of the past

Realists tend to think about the present
