I don't know the answer for sure, but i would say because psychology deals with the complexity of the brain, and the brain is part of biology, and biology is science. Plus, psychologist have to do scientific experiments to get their information.

the research is done empirically and scientifically... most of the researches conducted by psychologists involve laboratory work... to find a common pattern on how human think... and derive a theory that can be applied to all situation..
