I think you mean activated charcoal which is used in treating poisoning or overdosing. it also is used in chemical experimenting and is distilling. What it is is Carbon that has the most surface area, so its been burned up, fluffed up and crush leaving no rock, just powder, this way any impurity coming into contact with it will bind with it rendering the impurity inert. the more charcoal (carbon the better the filter/ antidote.
