Dr. Bruce Banner - "Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry. (I turn bright green and my molecules swell up!)" :-)

Technically, Hulk is the alter ego of Bruce Banner, rather than the other way around.

It depends. It was originally Bruce Banner; however, back in the '70s and early '80s it was changed to David Banner because the networks and media thought the name Bruce was homosexual. That is why the show The Incredible Hulk (with Lou Ferigno) is David Banner. It is now back to Bruce.

Originally it was just Bruce Banner. When they made the TV series, the network made a political decisio and said they wanted to call him David Banner (they thought Bruce sounded too homo, and they didn't want to dilute the Hulk's image.) But the leadership at Marvel reacted to that, because it wasn't the network's character to do with as they pleased!

So they established that though Banner's nationality was American, his ethnic background was Scottish, and they named him after a historic king of Scotland Robert Bruce, also known as Robert THE Bruce (no realation to Smokey THE Bear.)

IIRC, his abusive father was also Robert Bruce, so his mother always called her son Bruce to distinguish him from the alcoholic parent.
