Look out for hotel deals, and book the 2 of you in one. Bring a bottle of champagne or cava, and toast your year together, reminiscing over how you met, your first date, when you first realized you loved each other, anything that reminds you how lucky you both are to have each other. If money is tight, and a hotel is out of the question,a candlelit picnic at home reminiscing will be just as nice. Be sure to keep the champagne/cava cork and write the date/1st anniversary on it.

Perfect! Since you have to be separated anyway, get her a full package wherever she happens to be and let her celebrate her anniversary with a solo vacation! That way, she will know whether she'd prefer to spend all her vacations alone or wishes to have the next 20 or so with you...what better way to find out or set a precedent that might be the thing that keeps your marriage fresh and alive!

How about going to a nice hotel, staying the night and having a meal there? Something to lift you after Christmas... If you will have run out of money by then, how about going out for a long walk and going home to a good roast dinner?

Recreate your first date.
Do everything the same.
Same restaurant
same wine
same music
same walk along the street afterwards etc.
