A mirror image is a virtual image and suffers lateral inversion. So when you you wave your left hand, the image gets laterally inversed and you see it wave its right hand. If you move your right foot, the image will move its left foot and not the head.

I tried lying on my side in front of a mirror and shaking my head, but alas, even this didn't cause the image of my feet to twitch. Brilliant question!

Feet donot wiggle according to the movement of the head, be it a real image or a virtual one....there's no contact.

Mine do. Don't everyone's?
Seriously, your asking why symetry is a left/right thing, not up/down?
Sorry, don't know.

wrong statement ... when you wiggle your right toes, your image wiggles its left toes. Not contradiction.
