Consumer awareness is refering to an aware consumer, also known as an informed shopper in layman's terms. We need to have some sense of consumer awareness because if we did not, we'd go pay $45 for a pack of gum or something. Or if there was a recall because the item you just purchaed is dangerous, but being oblivious, you don't know about it and continue to use the potentially dangerous product. Basically, consumer awareness is knowing the value of things and the benefits and pitfalls of certain products.

The Better Business Bureau is the main one. Also, every state has an attorney general that tries to keep businesses honest. Consumer Reports magazine is an excellent source of consumer information.

i think it's the level of awareness of a company's target market/prospective consumers in relation to the company or the product/service they are trying to market towards the market/consumers. companies need to know this so they could decide whether to do more advertising and promotions or just maintain their current marketing, advertisement, communication and all other business strategies they're doing.
