You could be a inventor. A inventor can develop products on their own then sell them. You can invent almost anything. Many colleges offer classes.

Oddly enough, your post is oxymoronic. No insult or offense intended, but you announce that you are a problem-solver, creative, and resourceful...yet you feel the need to ask others to direct you toward a goal. This also goes against your statement: "...I prefer to work on my own as opposed to having a boss..."
If you are looking to submit a resume promoting your "Idea Guy" image, you should hope your prospective employer does not discover this post.
Now aside from these shortcomings, your best bet for a creative outlet and use of problem-solving skills in an upwarly mobile industry would be anything in web design. The technology is ever evolving, yet the basic concepts are the same, so even rudimentary skills and knowledge of HTML and JavaScript can get you started, and continued education focused on XHTML, CSS, XML, SQL, .NET, PHP can help you maintain a competitive edge.

Web-Design. The pay is good and it's a very creative career. You'll want to study Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop and Illustrator. These are kinda pricey, but if you don't mind you can get perfect cracks easy enough, just do a google search. Always remember to scan stuff like that for viruses. You can find out everything you need to know about these on the Internet.
For Photoshop:

For Flash:

For Illustrator:

For Dreamweaver:

All this software is much easier to use than most people think. You can find loads more free tutorials online. You can also read the "Tricks Of The Trade".
Good luck.

Depends on whether you like working with people. If you do, then there are plenty of types of careers, particularly marketing and advertising that is all day about generating ideas. If you don't like people, then having ideas is not really enough since you won't be able to share them or refine them.
