IS going to acting classes and all that actually make you better at acting? Or does it more just prepare you and teach you about the art of acting and all that?

Hey Bornman,

Anything that teaches you the craft and prepares you is going to make you better! Take the classes. I like the last site below.

It depends on the class. I took a class with the local theatre, and it really, really sucked. When I took the drama class in highschool, it was amazing, and we put on three really awesome productions that really got us into serious acting.

Like they say, practice makes perfect. If you can join in some classes at a school, go for it! It's loads of fun, and I guarantee- you will come out with new knowledge about acting and theatre. If you can find a good local theatre that runs a program, you could inquire as to what's done in the program, and decide if it's for you.

Like one of the above posters said, a mirror is also a very big help. Of course, it can't give feedback, but you can spend endless hours practicing gestures and expressions infront of it without heckling.

read stephen king on writing. different discipline, i know, but it can help clarify that to be successful you need a toolbox to work from. formal classes can give you techniques and practice.

to be successful at acting, you need to please the audience. without some formal training, how can you expect to give the audience what they need?
