African Bush Elephant. Average weight 6 tons (12,000 pounds). Largest ever in 1956 in Angola was 12 and a half tons (27,000 pounds).

1. Elephant...10,000-16,000 lb.'s
2. Hippo... 5,000-8,000 lb.'s
3. Rhino... 3,000-8,000 lb.'s
4. Giraffe... 3,000 lb.'s
5. Buffalo (such as the gaur)... 2,000-3,000 lb.'s

However male southern elephant seals, though not a true land animal, would weigh about the same as the hippo. It can scuttle across the beach like an inchworm. Saltwater crocodiles would weigh more than a giraffe, though an aquatic animal capable of land locomotion.
