If you're 40 your cycles could just be changing. Late thirties and early forties are when the previous cycles can get really wacky because you can be in peri-menopause or the beginning of menopause.

At the same time, at 40 years old there is the chance that your "eggs" are not as perfect as they need to be - so you could be losing fertilized eggs.

Nobody on here can really tell you if that's what is happening. If the doctor says your hormones are still sufficient, you may just have to bear in mind that it can take up to a year for even younger women to become pregnant when trying - so if you've been trying for less than a year that could be the only problem.

Do you mean that a laparascopy may be done (in which they make a tiny incision just above the pelvic bone - not through your bellybutton - and inject radio-opaque die into the tubes)? I'm just wondering if there's any chance you have another procedure in mind... Just something you should double-check with your doctor if there's any chance it isn't clear what procedure he/she has in mind.....

If you're ovulating, you are not aborting. Child bearing gets harder as time goes by; do you have other children? It's really hard to have a first child over the age of 30 or 35 (not saying it's impossible, just harder than if you'd had your first child by age 30) Remember that your cycle also changes; so your 26-28 cycle periods could very well have become 31-33 day cycles and still be normal. Maybe you've been ovulating later than you thought and that's why nothing is making sense to you. Good luck!
