The number of songs has nothing to do with it. It's the length of time of the songs. CDs will hold up to 80 minutes of songs. You could have 40 2 minute songs or 20 4 minute songs.

If its an audio cd, it can be about 14-18 songs, depending on the length. Your burning software will show you when you cross the limit, so keep adding till you do.

it varies because of the different lengths of the songs but i usually get around 21 or 22.
